Township Reorganizes for 2011 - Dennis Cook
Elected as Mayor
Taken from an article by Jean Jones in The News of Cumberland County

Township
Committee elected Democrat Dennis Cook, of Money Island, as the new Mayor at
Monday, Jan. 3rd’s reorganization meeting. He replaces Republican
Committeewoman Lisa Garrison in that position. Garrison served as Mayor
after Mayor Renee Blizzard resigned due to personal reasons earlier in 2010.
Two committee members were sworn in to begin new terms, Democrat Tammi
Reynolds, who had been serving the unexpired term of former mayor Renee
Blizzard, and Cook, who is beginning his first term on the committee.
Reynolds was sworn in by Millville Mayor Tim Shannon. “Our families go
back for years,” Shannon said. He went on to say that Reynolds’ mother, who
he asked to hold the Bible for the ceremony, worked for his father and
Reynolds’ father, Phil Berry, gave him his first job.
Cook was
sworn in by the Rev. Charles Mitchell, of Dividing Creek United Methodist
Church, with the Bible held by Emma Allen, a lifelong Sunday school teacher
at the church. Cook said the Bible was given to him by his wife and in his
new position he probably would need it a lot more.
Committeeman Steve Simmerman was selected as Deputy Mayor on a motion by
Garrison, seconded by Cook.
Fortescue resident Bob Marshall thanked the public works department for snow
removal.
“We were plowed out the morning of the snow,” he said. “We do appreciate
that.”
Township Committee wishes former Mayor Renee Blizzard well and expresses
gratitude for her community service and leadership after she steps down due
to personal reasons.
